Crusty (OpenClaw instance)¶
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Status | Active |
| Type | Personal / autonomous agent (OpenClaw) |
Description¶
Crusty is your OpenClaw agent running on a wiped MacBook Pro 2021 (M1, 16 GB RAM). The laptop stays clean: no Apple ID linkage; OpenClaw installed with minimal permissions only. This page is the canonical high-level reference for expanding and configuring Crusty.
Hardware & posture¶
- Machine: MacBook Pro 2021, M1, 16 GB RAM.
- Principles: Wiped/clean setup, minimal permissions, no Apple ID; new automations reviewed step-by-step to balance convenience vs. leak / over-exposure risk.
Model configuration (locked in)¶
| Role | Model |
|---|---|
| Main agent | grok-4-1-fast-reasoning |
| Coding sub-agent | grok-code-fast-1 |
Integrations (live)¶
- Band Gmail + Google Calendar — full access (newsletter summaries use mail forwarded from personal → band Gmail so Crusty can condense without widening personal inbox exposure unnecessarily).
- Brave API — web search for all searches.
Memory / reliability settings¶
Chosen for a stable “self” under minimal-permission constraints:
compaction.memoryFlush.enabled→ true (flush important state to disk before context compaction).memorySearch.experimental.sessionMemory→ true, sources include memory and sessions (strong cross-session persistence; supports reliable daily routines).
Architecture (three layers): conversation context + workspace files (e.g. SOUL.md) + semantic session search. Same pattern that made Lobstar Wilde interesting; Crusty adds memory-flush + session-memory hardening.
Daily routines (current)¶
| Routine | Notes |
|---|---|
| Newsletter / mailing-list digest | Daily summary of subscription mail (personal → band Gmail forward). |
| Aye Robot | Daily comic idea; image generation currently snagged — fix via config/tool tweak next round. Published strips: ayerobot-comic. → recurring-issues |
| Meal ideas | Delivered 15:00 (3 pm). |
Direction¶
- Goal: Automate more of life (calendar, deeper email workflows, creative work) without eroding the privacy/clean-machine bar.
- Reference experiment: Lobstar Wilde (see glossary) — identity, creative freedom, safe tools → voice, habits, social loops, durable value. Crusty is the same trajectory from a stricter foundation.
Tech stack¶
- OpenClaw on macOS; xAI (Aye Robot); Telegram (per org-wide notes); Google (Gmail, Calendar); Brave Search API.

Known issues¶
- Aye Robot: image step failing; needs config or tool change.
- Public publish: machine identity and integration detail are sensitive — trim for Quartz if needed.
